Lt. Robert J. Beckley's Diary
Navigator, 600th/601st Squadron

Beckley's Mission No.
3

5 August 1944
Target:
He 111 Engine factory, Doliberg, Germany

No. 3: Dollbergen [Doliberg], August 5, 1944:
[Editor's Note: The Official 398th Mission this day was to Doliberg, Germany. Probably Dollbergen was nearby or an alternate spelling.]

6 hours 25 minutes flying time.

Bomb load 20 two-hundred fifty pound GP bombs.

This is the kind of raid we all have sweet dreams about. There wasn’t a bit of flak over the target and the closest it ever got was about twenty miles to the left as we reached the initial point (IP). The target was a He 111 Engine factory.
