Lt. Robert H. Dee, Jr.'s Diary
Co-Pilot, 601st Squadron

Dee's Mission No.
3

21 November 1944
Target:
Synthetic Oil Plant, Merseburg, Germany

No. 3
Nov. 21, 1944

The mission was to Merseburg. The target was a synthetic oil plant which supplied about half or more of Germany’s oil. We carried G.P. bombs. We were in the high squadron, and no.3 in the lead element. I flew with Hunt. About 15 minutes from the target the lead ship pulled a big peel off, and dove from 27,000 ft. to 23,000 ft. We dove down at about 275 mph, and caught up with him. We then proceeded home, and carried our bombs all the way home, no flak or fighters.

Editor's note: The pilot called "Hunt" that is referred to is Mack J. Hunt.
