Lt. Robert H. Dee, Jr.'s Diary
Co-Pilot, 601st Squadron

Dee's Mission No.
21

28 January 1945
Target:
Cologne, Germany

No. 21
Jan 28, 1945

The target was Cologne. The bomb load was 5X1000 lb. The trip over was uneventful except that alot (about 7) of our ships didn’t make the formation. I saw the most flak today that I’ve ever seen. It just boiled up. The lead ship and the low squadron dropped their bombs and we (for some stupid reason) didn’t drop our bombs after flying through that flak. We hit Bielefeld the last resort target, and the flak was moderate accurate. We had minor flak damage. No fighter incurred.
