Lt. Robert H. Dee, Jr.'s Diary
Co-Pilot, 601st Squadron

Dee's Mission No.
22

29 January 1945
Target:
Niederlahnstein, Germany

No. 22
Jan. 29, 1945

The target was Koblenz. Everything went okay until 20 minutes before the target, and then #2 engine started throwing oil and we had to feather it. About 5 minutes after IP #3 engine ran away. We got a heading from Martini DF to an air strip. #4 engine was ready to go our when we landed at A-2. The next night a major asked me to fly a plane back from A-94. We took off and flew back 2/1/45, and landed here in the 3rd division ship which was repaired in France.

Editor's Note:

  1. The official 398th target for 29 Jan 1945 was Niederlahnstein.
  2. DF is probably Direction Finder
  3. 3rd division is the 3rd air division. The 398th was in the 1st air division.
