T/Sgt. George W. Forsyth's Diary
Engineer/TT Gunner 602nd Squadron

Foryth's Mission No.
5

10 November 1944
Target:
Airfield, Cologne, Germany

November 10, 1944

Today we flew our fifth mission. We bombed an airfield at Cologne. The flak was the heaviest I’ve ever seen. Just as bombs went away our navigator was hit and he died before we could get back. His name was Norman K. Lovingfoss. He’s one of the swellest guys a guy could hope to know. A funny thing about it no one talks about him and things go on just as usual. We bombed from twenty-seven thousand. On oxygen for four and one-half hours.
