T/Sgt. Armand Fugge's Diary
Engineer/Top Turret Gunner 600th Squadron

Fugge Mission No.
1

6 May 1944
Target:
Gun Emplacements, Sottevast, France

May 6, 1944
Got up at 2 am and briefed for my first combat mission. The target was Vaglones, France. The group was late in takeoff and we couldn’t find the formation. We didn’t hit the target but a few planes got a little flak. One of our ground men got hit accidentally in the head with a .50 cal.
Got 4 hours 45 minutes combat time.

Editor's Note: The official 398th Mission for 6 May 1944 was to Sottevast, France. In the diary entry for that date, Valognes is crossed out and replaced with Sottevast.. Vaglones cannot be located on the map at this time. Possibly it was a more specific part of Sottevast or perhaps an alternate location. The official target name has been used in the title.
