Engineer/Top Turret Gunner 600th Squadron

Fugge Mission No.
25

19 July 1944
Target:
Airfield, Lechfeld, Germany

July 19, 1944
Got up at 0100. Briefed at 0200. Our target was Lechfeld, Germany. Take off was 0510. Carried 42 – 100 lb. incendiaries. We had 5/10 undercast to the target. The target was open. Saw some flak on the way in close to Cologne and Saarbrucken. At the target flak was moderate but damn accurate. The lead plane of our element got a direct hit on the left wing. The wing was blown off, it nosed over snapping the fuselage in two by the radio room and it went straight down in a ball of flames. Enemy fighters were in the area but didn’t get any shots in. Two Forts collided and went down. Landed at 1315.

MISSION # 25 COMPLETED.
