T/Sgt. Armand Fugge's Diary
Engineer/Top Turret Gunner 600th Squadron

26 July to 28 July 1944
Non Mission Days

July 26, 1944
Slept till noon. After chow I had to report to Squadron Operations and Capt. Markeley asked me what I wanted to do after I complete my tour. All I said was “ I wanted to get back to my wife”. He put me in for an instructor in the zone of the interior, the good old U.S.A.

I’ve still got five missions to go. Got my little motor running and it was a job. I had to hook it in series with 3 lights, an electric iron and a transformer I bought in town. My bunk is really starting to look like a junk shop. I’ve got a box full of wires, resistors, switches and whatever else I could pick up around camp.

July 27, 1944
Slept ‘til noon. The boys were scheduled to hit Munich, Germany again today but the mission was scrubbed. Not one man in the squadron was disappointed. Killed the afternoon.

July 28, 1944
Slept till noon. The boys hit oil refineries at Merseburg, Germany. Hung around all afternoon.
