August 1, 1944
Slept till noon. The boys hit France and got shot up pretty bad. The group C.O. got hit pretty bad. He had two engines out, one burning. He put the plane into a dive and put the fire out. He was also wounded. “Mickey”, tail gunner on Elwood’s crew got a piece of flak in the leg and landed in the hospital.

August 2, 1944
Slept late. The boys were supposed to hit an oil refinery at Lens, France but the mission was scrubbed. Hung around all afternoon. Some of the boys that finished up left for the states today.
