T/Sgt. Armand Fugge's Diary
Engineer/Top Turret Gunner 600th Squadron

Fugge Mission No.
31

5 August 1944
Target:
Oil Refineries, Doliberg, Germany

August 5, 1944
Got up at 0500. Briefed at 0600. Our target was an oil refinery a Dollberg, Germany close to Magdeburg, a few miles northwest. Take off was 0830 and we flew the North Sea route striking the enemy coast by Wilhelmshaven, Germany. Our secondary target was Hanover, a pretty hot spot.

We carried 18 –250 lb. G.P.’s and dropped them visually. Did a real good job on the target. No undercast nor haze and I watched the bombs exploding 23,000 ft. below. I could see the flashes of the 88 mm batteries and the flak would explode at our altitude about 10 secs. later. Flak was moderate and not too close. Came out of Germany over Helder. Landed at 1600.

Lyman finished up today. I’ve got one more to go, Thank God.

MISSION # 31 COMPLETED.
