**3 September 1944**
**Target** **Ludwigshaven, Germany**
Date: September 3, 1944 Mission: Ludwigshaven, Germany Our first combat mission was to bomb a chemical works. We encountered intense, and accurate flak. We bombed PFF [Pathfinder Force]. I flew in the ball turret. We were airborne 9-1/2 hours, and on oxygen for 4-1/2 hours. We sustained no battle damage. It was plenty exciting.
