Date: September 17, 1944
Mission: Eindhoven Area, Holland We bombed at 25,000 feet, (temperature -46 degrees) to gum up transportation railroads for the paratroop invasion that was to immediately follow. We later found out that the invasion was a great success. We had hit the Germans gun positions. No flak was encountered as our field artillery down below silenced them. Bombing run was done by PFF [Pathfinder Force] and bomb strikes were good. We were airborne 9 hours, on oxygen 3 hours. This was our first milk run so far. |
