Mission: Chemnitz, Germany

We bombed at 28,000 feet the marshalling yards in direct support of the Russians. We also went after an oil refinery there. The temperature was –59 degrees. We caught heavy flak, and got hit in a number of places. A piece of flak missed Briody, the tail gunner by just a few inches. They shot hell out of our whole formation, and all the planes had holes in them. This was the most accurate flak that we had seen by myself any way. We did great damage, but bomb strike reported that we missed the target.
