March 7, 1945
Mission: Siegen, Germany We bombed at 22,000 feet the marshalling yards, and made excellent hits in support of the ground troops. Three days later, the ground troops made a pocket of Essen and Dortmund vicinity. We encountered no flak, and no hits. We were airborne 7 hours, and 3 hours on oxygen. The temperature was 49 degrees. This was a good mission. I am counting the missions that I have yet to go on one hand now. I have waited a long time, too. Note: The diary indicates Dortmund, but the official mission that day was to Siegen, Germany. |
