S/Sgt. Kenneth A. Green's Diary
Gunner, 603rd Squadron

Green
Mission No.
30

17 March 1945
Target
Bohlen, Germany

March 17, 1945
Mission: Bohlen, Germany

This is my 30th and last mission. We bombed the synthetic oil works there at 26,000 feet. The temperature was –60 degrees. Flak was heavy and all over the sky, but inaccurate. We received a few holes, but not Very big. Bombing was done PFF and bombing strikes were reported good. We were airborne 8-1/2 hours, and on oxygen 3 hours. I was really sweating out this “last one” of mine, especially in the tail gunner’s position. I am all finished now and ready to go home.

Note: The diary indicates Leipzig, but the official mission that day was to Bohlen, Germany.
