Target Elsterwerda, Germany

April 19, 1945 – Mission #19, target Elsterwerda, clear, three bomb runs over target, Got flack just after bombs away. We had to take over lead of squadron. We saw Berlin and smoke along the Russian front lines east of Berlin. From the amount of smoke along the Russian lines, they must have burned almost every thing that would burn.
