S/Sgt. Chilton H. Jorgenson's Diary
Ball Turret Gunner 601st Squadron

Jorgenson's Mission No.
7

28 May 1944
Target:
Dresden, Germany
398th Target was Ruhland, Germany

Mission # 7
May 28, 1944

1st Lt. M.L. Genung flew as our first pilot until Jack checked out as first pilot. Our bombardier passed out and by the time he recovered we had lost our formation. We joined a 3rd division formation and flew tail end Charlie on the high group. We hit Dresden, Germany. Time 9 hours.

Editor's Note: The Official 398th Target for 28 May 1944 was Ruhland, Germany. Dresden is about 30 miles south. It is unknown if the 3rd Air Division had an alternate nearby target or if Sgt. Jorgenson just chose the name of a nearby large town for his diary.
