S/Sgt. Chilton H. Jorgenson's Diary
Ball Turret Gunner 601st Squadron

Jorgenson's Mission No.
18

1 August 1944
Target:
Airfield, Villaroche, France

Mission # 18
August 1, 1944

Target today was either Melun or Villaroche, France. It was an airfield near these two towns. A swell job was done. Col. Hunter’s ship was hit and one engine caught fire. I heard later that they got it under control but so far he hasn’t got back to the field. Time 6 hours.

Col. Hunter got back OK.

Editor's Note: The Official Target for the 398th was Villaroche, France
