S/Sgt. Chilton H. Jorgenson's Diary
Ball Turret Gunner 601st Squadron

Jorgenson's Mission No.
19

5 August 1944
Target:
Doliberg, Germany

Mission # 19
August 5, 1944

Target Doalbergen [Doliberg], Germany. Time 7 hours. A mission you see in the movies only. Visual bombing no flak and no fighters. We were in the lead group and our groups bombs hit the pickle barrel. Biggest explosion of fire and black oil smoke I have ever seen.

Editor's Note: The 398th target for August 5, 1944 was Doliberg, Germany. A variety of spellings for the name of the target have been seen.
