S/Sgt. Chilton H. Jorgenson's Diary
Ball Turret Gunner 601st Squadron

Jorgenson's Mission No.
20

13 August 1944
Target:
Bridge, Le Manoir, France

Mission # 20
August 13, 1944

Target today was a bridge just outside Roun, France. Time 6 hours. This is the same town we got shot up so bad the day Bill was hurt and we got it bad today. I was scared stiff.

Capt. Griffin’s ship had to land in Normandy ( Dyerberg Crew). Lt. Weekly’s crew bailed out over France and I think they all got down OK. Their ship # 516 almost crashed into us on the way down. A lot of ships were hit and had to feather engines. I guess several men were shot up. Flak was moderate but very accurate.

Editor's Note: The official 398th Target for August 13, 1944 was Le Manoir, France.
