Novek and Smith Diary Targets Listing
To assist in the readibiliy of the T/Sgt. Elliot Novek and Lt. Paul W. Smith Diaries, our volunteer transcriber, Don Parks created a table of their missions. Part of the reason for this was to have an easy to refer to list, but also to list the different spellings of the target name and to ultimately show the actual location.
Notes:
- T/Sgt. Elliot Novek was the radio Operator for the Nolan Thompson 602nd crew.
- Lt. Paul W. Smith was the Navigator for the Nolan Thompson 602nd crew.
- Columns with asterisks indicate target spelling as it appears in each pulbication.
- The Official 398th Mission List: The source of this list is from the 398th Bomb Group Memorial Association Publication: 398th Bomb Group Remembrances by Allen Ostrom circa 1989. Spellings of towns are as they are in that publication. It should be noted that on some days there were multiple missions and sometimes part of the formation went to alternate targets because of weather, heavy flak, or other conditions. Thus data for individual crews may be inconsistent with the above list.
