S/Sgt. John Veenschoten's Diary
Radio Operator/Gunner, 603rd Squadron

Veenschoten
Mission No.

27 February 1945
Target
Leipzig, Germany

Target – Leipzig, Germany
Date – February 27, 1945

The target was a tank factory. We were leading an element, but over Brussels, Belgium we had an engine go out on us and were unable to gain altitude. We left the formation and went on into Germany alone. We bombed 15 miles north east of Frankfurt and didn’t see a burst of flak. Fortunately there weren’t any fighters about. Once again I flew as tail gunner on Lt. Aniello’s crew.
