Comments:

  1. Training Photo
  2. B-17-G aircraft in photo: 'PI'
  3. Photo Date: Probably 1944
  4. Photo Location: USA, exact location unknown
  5. Ranks are not as of time of photo, they are as of April 1945.
  6. Photo is determined to be a training photo due to B-17 markings 'PI' on nose. Also men are wearing leather A-2 jackets, normally worn during training.
  7. Jerome Berry was originally identified as a waist gunner. However, in this photo, he is wearing Lieutenant bars on his collar and Garrison cap. He is most likely a bombardier, a pilot or crew training instructor. There is no mention of this man in the 398th Historical records that we can find. So he was either a Stateside instructor or he was reassigned to another BG before going overseas.
  8. Photo Reference: Gieryn Training
  9. Information compiled by the 398th BGMA Web Team with big thanks to Amy Thomson, daughter of Frank M. Thomson, for providing her Dad's crew photo.
