- The Wright Crew was hit by flak and went down while on a combat mission to Stuttgart, Germany September 10, 1944. It was the crew's second mission. According to MACR 8918, they were flying B-17-G serial# 42-107103 K8-A "Maria Notre Dame". Co-Pilot Clinton B. Clifton, Engineer Richard S. Trantham, Radio Op Louis S. Fantana, Ball Turret Gunner Lorin S. Liby and Tail Gunner Thomas D. Wadleigh were all KIA. Pilot Parke Wright III, Bombardier Harold L. Eck, Navigator David E. Flipse and Waist Gunner Walter F. MIller survived but were captured and became POWs. Co-Pilot Hamilton Mero and Waist Gunner Menelaus John Manos did not fly with the crew that day.
